About This Place

Nestled in the heart of downtown Puerto Vallarta, Puro Perú is a vibrant culinary gem that invites guests to embark on an authentic Peruvian gastronomic journey. This charming restaurant blends traditional flavors with a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels both intimate and lively.

The menu at Puro Perú is a celebration of Peru’s rich coastal and highland culinary heritage, with standout dishes that awaken the palate and satisfy even the most discerning food lovers. Start your experience with a refreshing Pisco Sour, a classic Peruvian cocktail that perfectly balances tart citrus and the smoothness of pisco. For the main course, delicacies such as the Tiradito de Pescado and Ceviche Peruano showcase the freshest sea bass, tender and marinated just right to deliver a symphony of ocean-fresh flavors complemented by bursts of zesty Peruvian salsa. The Lomo Saltado Peruano, a traditional beef stir-fry rich with smoky, savory notes, is a hearty choice that comforts and excites in equal measure, while the Peruvian Seafood Rice and Arroz Con Mariscos Estilo Peruano create a lush, flavorful tapestry brimming with succulent shrimp, tender fish, and fragrant spices.

Puro Perú stands apart not only for its impeccably crafted dishes but also for its unique dining experience. Artwork and vibrant murals adorn the exterior, creating an inviting entrance that hints at the cultural richness inside. The interior is decorated with captivating photographs and a portrait of the chef-owner, Fernando, whose dedication to quality and hospitality shines through. Guests can enjoy the thrill of watching the kitchen’s artistry unfold on screens above several fish tanks, heightening the connection between diners and the source of their fresh seafood. It’s as though every table becomes a front-row seat to a live performance of culinary excellence.

Customer feedback consistently highlights more than just the delicious food: the genuine warmth and attention from Fernando and his staff turn a meal here into a memorable event. Whether seated outside soaking in the lively streetscape or inside where the atmosphere feels like dining among family, the service is attentive without being intrusive, ensuring every guest feels cared for and welcomed.

Though some guests find the pricing a bit steep and note the cash-only policy, many argue that the exquisite flavors, fresh ingredients, and heartfelt service more than justify the expense. Signature dishes like the Sea Bass Special of the Night and Camarones Al Olivo linger long after the last bite, while the Flan Napolitano provides a sweet, velvety finish that perfectly rounds out the meal.

At Puro Perú, you aren’t just dining—you are experiencing authentic Peruvian culture, crafted with passion and served with pride. This is a destination for those who crave vibrant, flavorful food paired with an immersive and personable dining atmosphere that feels like home away from home.

This is one of the best local, traditional, brilliant places in downtown Puerto Vallarta. Fernando is focused on customer experience, comfort, and quality. The food is exceptional, and the rest of his restaurant is equally intriguing in every way. The staff is experienced and well trained - their attention to all customers is spot on. He will take care of you, like family.

I loved this place and can't wait to go back! The murals on the outside welcome you in, and there is unique art inside, including photographs and a portrait of the chef/owner. Every table is the chef's table, because you can watch the kitchen in action on a screen above one of the several fish tanks. It was great to see the chef come out and speak to diners. Get the Lo macho, it's enough for two!

We had a fantastic experience here for dinner as well as service. The Peruvian ceviche was delightful with fresh sea bass. Then we had the Wok stir fried chicken with noodles and the Beef tenderloin dish. The Pisco Sours were good as well. All were expertly prepared by the owner and chef. We sat at an outside table and service was great as well.

The food at Puro Peru was absolutely amazing!!! Everything we tried was so flavorful and authentic. I especially loved the ceviche and flan—it was delicious! The server was incredibly nice and attentive, which made our dining experience even better. If you're craving delicious Peruvian cuisine, this is the place to go!

In my experience, overhyped? The fish was very fresh and the yam in the ceviche was really nice but there were only a couple of small pieces to balance out all the acidity. I generally found it overpriced, especially for a cash only place..

The chef, an impressive 70 years old but looking no more than 60—perhaps thanks to a lifetime of surfing—has spent 50 years perfecting his craft. Originally from Peru, he has called Mexico home for the past 30 years, after working in top kitchens across New York, Tokyo, Europe, and beyond for two decades. Committed to quality, he uses only the freshest ingredients—nothing frozen. As the sole chef, he prepares each dish in full view, with a live kitchen feed displayed on large monitors throughout the restaurant. He owns the building, lives upstairs (he even gave us a tour of his place), and offers two private dining rooms for intimate groups of eight. The food? Outstanding. The Peruvian ceviche was spicy, unique, and absolutely superb. The fresh, large seabass with wok vegetables came with an unbelievably flavorful sauce. The steak, paired with fresh vegetables, was another standout dish. The ambiance is just as impressive, with authentic Peruvian decor and a massive, beautifully painted mural adorning the exterior wall. A truly remarkable find—though I grudgingly have to give credit to a friend for the recommendation. One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Vallarta, topped off with excellent Peruvian cocktails.

I just love this place, and Fernando is an amazing chef. In addition he happens to be a kind and engaging person. His food is creative and delicious! I’ve been coming since it opened and it never fails to deliver. My sea bass special last night was up there with all the other dishes. Can’t wait to return!

Went with a friend who is well-versed with Peruvian cuisine. The food: Started with a Pisco Sour cocktail (VG), Fish Ceviche (not seasoned in the tiger’s milk long enough so a bit chewy)main dishes, Shrimp Chaufa (VG), Lomo Saltado Beef (good flavor, but beef a bit chewy), Fish fillet Nikkei style (VG) finished with dessert Alfajor Peruano (Peruvian macaroon-like cookies and Peruvian flan) and coffee. The Chaufa fried rice and Fish Nikkei highly recommended. Service was very good, Chef Fernando came by table to visit, a nice personal touch. Overall, a bit pricey but reasonable for a different food experience.
